UPPER EAST SIDE HIPSTERS: Jennifer Creel and Christine Mack held a “Mother’s Day launch” in Mack’s Upper East Side apartment on Wednesday afternoon for Creel+Mack, their new accessories collaboration. Guests slipped in from the rain to snack on Sant Ambroeus sandwiches and inspect the duo’s wares, such as The Hipster, a collection of fanny-pack-esque pochettes meant to be worn with a selection of belts around the hips. “These started out of necessity,” Creel said, gesturing at the pack tied around her own waist. “I would run and need a place to put my iPhone, my iPod, my walking-around money. I wanted something nice-looking that I could wear out, too. It’s about streamlining down to the essentials.” The line’s Social Butterfly baubles may not be as technically essential, but of a similar aesthetic. Creel referred to long butterfly boasting chain pieces as “bikini belts” that could also be worn as necklaces, also featuring anklets and pendants in sterling silver and gold, some available with small diamonds. “We used the butterfly symbol because I was so inspired by Damien Hirst’s butterflies,” Creel said. “It’s a very free, feminine, happy symbol. We felt it was pretty and whimsical and…right for this.”
