After 28 years at Galleria Dallas, jewelry store Ylang 23 will move in January to bigger digs five miles south at the Plaza at Preston Center. The established open-air complex sprawls across a busy corner in University Park, an affluent town next to deep-pocketed Highland Park. “We are going to be almost double the space, which we need, and we have so many core customers in Preston Hollow and Highland Park,” explained Joanne Teichman, who owns the store with her husband, Charles. “We love the neighborhood, the setting and the mix of stores, restaurants and Tom Thumb [supermarket] and now the [University Park Public] Library.”
The new space is 1,950 square feet, providing more room for events, retail display and staff for the company’s burgeoning e-commerce site. Ylang 23 has built an international reputation for designer jewelry collections by Cathy Waterman, Irene Neuwirth and dozens more. TThe store opened in 1985 as Ylang-Ylang in a 750-square foot kiosk partially squeezed under an escalator and changed its name in 2004 when it expanded to a spot overlooking the Galleria’s ice rink. Teichman expects to be in Preston Center by Feb. 1.
