MAINLY CLOUDY: Jil Sander crossed textile boundaries for fall, using interior fabric specialist Kvadrat’s wool felt for women’s coats and men’s suits. And now the fashion house has installed the Danish fabric maker’s three-dimensional cloud structures into the Jil Sander Hamburg store this week, to be followed by the Munich flagship October 20-22.
Designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, the Kvadrat clouds are composed of fabric tiles that can be arranged and rearranged in myriad forms. The Jil Sander installation features elongated, cocoon-like clouds in winter white edged in black. These hang from the ceiling to partially encase a line-up of mannequins on pedestals.
