‘Fashion Draft NYC’ Kicks Off

Macy’s ceo Terry Lundgren will welcome the 25 college and university students participating in the 3-day program organized by Parsons and the NYCEDC.

JOB SEARCH: “Fashion Draft NYC,” a new initiative by Parsons The New School for Design and the New York City Economic Development Corp., kicks off this morning at Macy’s, where chief executive officer Terry Lundgren will welcome 25 college and university students as they embark on three days of interviews and networking with retail and fashion companies, as well as tours of many of the facilities. It’s part of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s FashionNYC2020 program to bolster the city’s $55 billion fashion industry and recruit some fresh talent.

Parsons and the NYCEDC selected and brought the recruits to New York and are paying their expenses for the whirlwind event. Aside from Macy’s, they are touring Li & Fung and Diane von Furstenberg and having interviews at Ralph Lauren, Bloomingdale’s, Saks Fifth Avenue, Club Monaco, Gilt Groupe and Theory. The students are from such institutions as Parsons, the Fashion Institute of Technology, Pratt, Yale, Duke, UC Berkeley and Princeton, among others around the country.
