government-trade Taps Julie Gilhart

The former fashion director at Barneys New York has joined the Internet giant as a consultant to its fashion group.

GILHART’S NEW ROLE: Julie Gilhart, former fashion director at Barneys New York, has joined as a consultant to the Internet giant’s fashion group, including Amazon Clothing Store, Endless and Myhabit.

Gilhart will help shape the fashion point of view and the assortment of designer brands. At Barneys, she played a similar role, discovering new designers and nurturing several such as Alber Elbaz, Proenza Schouler and Olivier Theyskens. She also worked with more established labels such as Helmut Lang, Balenciaga and Goyard.

Gilhart left Barneys last November, shortly after Mark Lee became the new chief executive officer and started overhauling the executive team. “Her ability to identify fashion trends, support emerging designers and work with established brands will help us provide excitement and new talent for Amazon’s growing fashion businesses,” said Maria Renz, ceo of Myhabit and Endless, who also serves as vice president of shoes and jewelry at Amazon.
