The Duchess of Cambridge kicked off her tour of Canada with a salute to that country’s designers.
For the plane journey from London on Thursday, the duchess wore a navy blazer with gold buttons by Smythe, a Canadian label designed by Andrea Lenczner and Christie Smythe. Underneath, she donned a navy Roland Mouret Manon dress. A spokeswoman for the label said the duchess had purchased the jacket directly from the designers.

Changing en route, the new British royal deplaned in Erdem’s Cecile lace dress, designed by the Canadian-born Erdem Moralioglu. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s itinerary included laying a wreath at Canada’s National War Memorial before making an appearance at a Celebration of Youth barbecue reception. The duchess has packed 30 outfits for the trip — anticipating up to three changes a day — although she is breaking with tradition and not taking a dresser with her. Her only grooming assistant will be her hairdresser, James Pryce. Nonetheless, she’s likely to make fashion news all the way.
