Kate Moss Fetes 40th Birthday With Friends

Guests included Moss’ husband Jamie Hince, Sir Philip Green, John Galliano, Mario Testino, Stella McCartney and Naomi Campbell.

DAYTIME DRAMA: Kate Moss marked her 40th birthday on Thursday — in broad daylight — with a lunch at 34, London’s restaurant of the moment just off Grosvenor Square. Guests included Moss’ husband, Jamie Hince; Sir Philip Green, who presented his Topshop design collaborator with a black vintage Porsche; John Galliano; Mario Testino; Stella McCartney; Jo Wood; Sadie Frost; Sir David Tang; James Brown; Nick Grimshaw, and Moss’ mother, Linda Rosina. The model, who arrived in a leopard coat, black dress, powder-pink Chanel clutch — and towering black brogues — had recently arrived from a stay at Sir Richard Branson’s home on Necker Island. On Thursday, to mark the birthday, “Kate Moss,” an illustrated biography by celebrity writer Chris Roberts, hit bookshelves in Britain.

As the lunch was taking place, Topshop’s creative director Kate Phelan praised Moss during a talk at The Condé Nast College in London. “Twenty-plus years into the industry and she still holds a trophy of being the best model in the world,” she said.

That wasn’t the end of the Moss love-in, however. Naomi Campbell — who also attended Thursday’s birthday lunch — penned a two-page tribute to Moss for London’s Evening Standard newspaper: “She’s honest, loyal and straightforward. There’s no bulls–t. She’s not pretentious in any way. What you see is what you get.…She’s like my little sister, and 40 or not she’s still my little sister. We even have nicknames for each other — but I don’t think she’d want me to tell you!”
