SPADE AT SELFRIDGES: Kate Spade New York has landed at Selfridges in a first effort to build the brand’s wholesale distribution in the U.K. market. Its holiday pop-up shop offers accessories including small leather goods, jewelry, handbags, stationery, and tech accessories from the fall, Christmas, and holiday collections in the brand’s signature color palette, and in glittering rose gold, inspired by champagne bubbles. The shop is located on the ground floor of Selfridges’ Duke Street entrance, near brands including Marc by Marc Jacobs and Topshop. “It’s our first wholesale presence in the U.K., our first foray, and I love the fact that we could be at the Duke Street entrance,” said Deborah Lloyd, president and chief creative officer at Kate Spade. “It was the center of the universe when I was younger, and came to shop for [the brand] Miss Selfridge. I am very nostalgic about it.” She said that among the bestsellers in the U.K. — where Kate Spade already has three standalone stores — is Beau Bag, while the brand has made its Carroll Park Bag in coral as an exclusive to Selfridges. Lloyd said Kate Spade is using Selfridges as a testing ground with an eye to expanding its wholesale distribution in the market.
