INDEPENDENT WOMAN: Katie Holmes might be best known for her star turns in big studio flicks like “Batman Begins” (not to mention for being married to Tom Cruise), but that didn’t stop the actress from hosting a 30th anniversary bash for the Independent Filmmaker’s Project, sponsored by Swarovski, at the Cooper Square Hotel on Sunday night. “I love all kinds of movies,” said Holmes, who actually has a few indie projects under her belt, including the dark comedy “Pieces of April.” She went with a big gun, though, when it came to her ensemble. “It’s Alexander McQueen,” she said. “I [already] had it, and it was nice and cool for a hot day.”
Presumably, Holmes won’t have to give as much thought to her fashion choices next Monday. The actress said she’ll skip the Costume Institute Gala, adding, “I had a lot of fun last year. It’s a great event.”

GREISS LEAVES RYKIEL: After less than 18 months as creative director of Sonia Rykiel’s main fashion line, Gabrielle Greiss has left the French fashion house. “We separated by mutual agreement,” house president Nathalie Rykiel confirmed to WWD on Monday, adding the house’s fashion direction remains in her and Sonia’s hands. “I have put in place a design studio, with a certain number of people under my artistic direction and of course, that of Madame Rykiel,” she said. After working with Sonia Rykiel in the studio for two years, Greiss was promoted to creative director in December 2007 to lend a younger, modern aesthetic to the label. Greiss, who trained at Central Saint Martins in London, worked at Lanvin, Martine Sitbon and Anna Molinari before joining Rykiel. Her next move could not be learned.
VICTORIA’S SECRET: It looks like Victoria Beckham will heat up Herald Square next week, courtesy of Emporio Armani. On May 6, the designer and former Spice Girl is making a personal appearance at Macy’s Herald Square to unveil the newest Emporio Armani Underwear campaign for fall. This will be the second time Beckham is featured in the campaign, which was shot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott in a studio in Milan.
Given that Beckham is in town next week, it is widely expected she will also attend the Costume Institute benefit on Monday. With Posh BFF Marc Jacobs cohosting the night, it wouldn’t be surprising if she came as one of his dates.
