Lapo Elkann, founder of the newly publicly listed Italia Independent Group, is to be inducted in the Automotive Hall of Fame and will receive the Young Leader & Excellence Award in a ceremony on July 25. Elkann has served as director of brand promotions for Fiat Group and is being recognized for his impact on the industry. Along with his two siblings, John and Ginevra, the young entrepreneur is the majority shareholder of Exor, the Fiat Group holding company. He is a descendent of Giovanni Agnelli, the founder of the automotive firm in 1899.Elkann is the only Fiat heir to receive this award after his great-grandfather Giovanni Agnelli.
Hosted by RM Auctions at the Inn at St. John’s in Plymouth, Mich., the 2013 Automotive Hall of Fame Induction & Awards Ceremony, will recognize, in addition to Elkann, eight others who have influenced the industry, including retired General Motors vice chairman Robert A. Lutz, Aston Martin founders Lionel Martin and Robert Bamford and Formula One champ Sir John Y. “Jackie” Stewart OBE.
