HEAD GAMES: Hats off to Lars Nilsson: The affable Swedish fashion designer just landed a new job as artistic director of Comptoir des Cotonniers and Princesse Tam Tam, and his personal collection of couture millinery is to go on display in Stockholm next month.
Nilsson has been collecting hats and other fashion items since 1985, when he moved to Paris and went on to work at couture houses including Christian Lacroix, Chanel and Christian Dior. Most of the 50 hats date from the Eighties and Nineties, including a feathered number by Philip Treacy for a 1992 Chanel couture collection. Hats from couture and ready-to-wear collections by Lacroix, Yves Saint Laurent, Azzedine Alaïa and Pierre Balmain are also represented.

About 50 other fashion accessories from Nilsson’s collection also figure in the exhibition at the Hallwyl Museum, a 19th-century mansion that also showcases art, porcelain and antique furniture. “Hats Off: Hats from the Lars Nilsson Collection” runs from Feb. 7 to June 8.
As a teaser to the showcase, photos of the hats by Carl Bengtsson are to be exhibited during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Stockholm, which opens Monday.
