BROCK’S 3-2-1: Three seasons into their Brock collection, designers Laura Vassar and Kris Brock managed their first presentation Monday, just two months after the arrival of their son Charlie. Everything went off without a hitch for the husband-and-wife team who had 50-plus media types ready and waiting at the stroke of three at The Standard. Even the icy Hudson River and Pier 54’s jagged, decaying pilings that could be seen out the window in the distance seemed to enhance their dark and metallic column dresses. Their real backdrop — a lavender-gray painted one — was the same shade that can be found in the kitchen of Vassar’s mother Caroline’s house. A constant source of inspiration, Vassar said of her mom, “Her passion is interior design but she has always had an impeccable fashion sense.”
Should the Brocks return to The Standard next season, the backdrop may look noticeably different. The soon-to-be-demolished Pier 54 will make way for Diane von Furstenberg’s and Barry Diller’s $130 million emerald-green floating park and performance space.
