JUMP START: German fashion brand Laurèl has enrolled the help of Esmod Berlin to kick off its fall/winter 2012 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Berlin on Jan. 19. Fifty second-year students were asked to create a jumpsuit that reflected the theme “Art Deco Meets Ethno.” The winning design by Carmina Blank will open Laurèl’s runway show, and will also be produced in a limited edition with 50 percent of the sales benefiting the children’s charity Kindernothilfe.

For Laurèl’s head designer Elisabeth Schwaiger, the jumpsuit is “an outstanding item… a new modern suit.” Henning Linge’s fur-accented model won him the second prize of a six-month internship at the Munich-based brand, and Marin Hoermanseder’s look gained her a two-month Laurèl trainee stint.
