NIPPON STYLE: Parisian department store Le Bon Marché will celebrate the 90th anniversary of Franco-Japanese cultural partnership starting in August with an exhibition focusing on the land of the rising sun as well as a spotlight in store on innovative Japanese brands.


As part of the event, which will run from Aug. 30 to Oct. 18, architect Tadao Ando will transform the store’s 10 windows on Rue de Sèvres, while two installations within the Bon Marché, one on the third level and one on the ground floor, are to celebrate his work on the “museum islands” of Naoshima, Teshima and Inujima.


The store’s third-level atrium space will also put the focus on Japanese designer Chitose Abe, presenting her Sacai and Sacai Luck labels as well as an exclusively designed capsule collection of sweaters, parkas, T-shirts and accessories.


A selection of curated Japanese brands and products including fashion for men, women and children, beauty products, homewares and gourmet items will also be on offer.


Many of these, including Beams, Kitsuné, Tsumori Chisato and Kolor, have created products especially for the event.


Within the store’s footbridges, works by photographer Anju will be displayed on behalf of the Kokoro 11.3.11 association, which benefits the population affected by the 2011 earthquake in the East of Japan, with proceeds from the sale of bracelets going to the association.
