Before Midnight: There were no princes in the wings or glass slippers in sight, but Leyla Piedayesh’s intimate “Dinner with Cinderella” at Crackers during Berlin Fashion Week put a contemporary style twist on the fairy tale. As the clock struck 11 p.m. — and thus well ahead of the pumpkin — the designer behind LaLa Berlin sent out the popular German label’s first red-carpet capsule collection. While the first baby blue confections were a direct tonal nod to the starring gown in the upcoming film by Kenneth Branagh, Piedayesh seemed to have her favorite young actresses, such as the attending Heike Makatsch, Christiane Paul or Jasmin Tabatabai, more in mind. Indeed, Leyla raided some of Lala’s strongest looks, such as her easy caftans, to create this “Midnight in Berlin” range suited for the 30-something set. Why go the evening route now? “I felt like it,” she told WWD. “And there’s been lots of demand,” which the enthusiastic applause that greeted the sharply plunging black jumpsuit seemed to bear out.
