LIBERTY UNITED GOES SOLO: Liberty United is veering into independent territory. The brand, which has previously collaborated with Giles & Brother and Pamela Love, is launching its first independent collection. “I wanted to turn my ideas into pieces that could come from our brand,” said founder Peter Thum. “I wanted to give people a different perspective on what these guns meant to American History and what they could mean now.” As with Thum’s past collaborations, jewelry is crafted from recycled illegal guns, steel and, or bullet casings. Additionally, each piece bears the serial number of a gun taken out of circulation, and each piece purchased helps fund programs that reduce gun violence in the USA.
The brand’s first line, due out for fall, consists of two distinct collections: Octagon, based the stop sign-esque shape of gun barrels, and the Sword & Ploughshare, which draws on the ancient art turning weapons into tools. The Sword & Ploughshare pieces, made of sterling silver and gunmetal, will consist of two bracelets, one necklace and two pairs of earrings, and with prices ranging from $195 to $395., while the Octagon collection will consist of four bracelets, two necklaces and one pair of earrings, retailing for $35 to $145. Both collections will be available in specialty stores and on Liberty United’s website beginning this fall.
