LIZ’S DIAMONDS AREN’T FOREVER: Many of the Los Angeles ladies who turned out to Christie’s preview of The Collection of Elizabeth Taylor at MOCA Pacific Design Center own quite a few jewels of their own, but they had nothing on Taylor, whose famed jewels had even the most blasé guests in awe. “She has diamonds from every husband she had,” marveled Nancy Davis. “She did really well.” Marc Porter, chairman of Christie’s Americas and co-hosts Debra Black (whose Melanoma Research Alliance was honored at the luncheon), Maria Bell, Jami Gertz and Kelly Katz welcomed Kelly Chapman Meyer, Katherine and Jane Ross, Colleen Bell, Mary Alice Haney, Nancy Davis, Gelila Puck, Heather Mnuchin and others to the preview of the four-day exhibition, which runs October 13 to 16. The sold-out Los Angeles show, the third stop after Moscow and London, is followed by Dubai, Geneva, Paris and Hong Kong and culminates with the Christie’s New York sale December 13 to 16, estimated to net $30 million in sales of the 2,000 pieces. In addition to the jewels, gowns by Chanel and Dior were also on display along with Taylor’s three Academy Awards. “You should all put on a piece now,” said Maria Bell of the paper doll-style cut-out jewelry offered at each seat. “It might be the only chance you get to wear anything.”
