SKETCHES IN LEATHER: Loewe celebrated the launch of “The Masters of Leather,” an illustrated book celebrating the house’s craftsmanship, with a cocktail Friday at its flagship store on Gran Via in the Spanish capital Madrid. Art director and illustrator Robert Clarke followed the creation of a Loewe product from tannery to store to produce the handwritten tome, which is being released in a limited edition of 500 to go on sale in Loewe stores worldwide in October. “I love the feel and look of the book just as I love Loewe’s bags,” he stated. “Their color and style is so quintessentially Spanish that the book was inspired by Miró, Picasso and the colors of Spain, and there’s a hint of Tàpies in there too for good measure.” Clarke has designed an installation telling the company’s history that will take over 13 windows of Japanese department store Isetan’s Shinjuku branch in Tokyo, which will also host a Loewe pop-up store from Sept. 21 to 27.
