MINNIE MOUSE IN LONDON: Alongside the action at London Fashion Week’s spring shows in September, the British Fashion Council is set to support a celebration of a certain famous cartoon mouse’s style off the runway. “Minnie Style,” a photographic exhibition to be held at London Fashion Week, will chart how the character has served as a style influencer over the years. Justine Finch, director of franchise for Walt Disney Company U.K., pointed to moments such as Madonna shot by Herb Ritts wearing a pair of Minnie Mouse ears, or the character appearing on the cover of Love Magazine’s fall 2013 issue, while models such as Cara Delevingne and Georgia May Jagger wore Minnie Mouse ears created by designers on alternative covers of the same edition. And Jagger will also have a hand in the Minnie Style exhibition, which runs Sept. 18 through 22, with the model curating the exhibition and including some of her own photographic shots in the show. Ahead of the exhibit’s opening, Jagger will invite her Instagram followers to share ideas for the show, using the hashtag minniestyleuk. Jagger noted that the exhibition will “[show] how pop culture can influence fashion in a way that encourages excitement and creativity.” And to celebrate the exhibition’s launch, Jagger has posed for a series of images shot by Sharif Hamza for Dazed Magazine, in which the model wears specially created, Minnie-inspired designs by London name Ashley Williams. They will appear in the spring issue of Dazed, which hits newsstands April 9.
