LORRAINE’S WORLD: Jeweler to the stars Lorraine Schwartz, received a bit of her own star treatment Wednesday, as she was honored at New York’s Plaza for her fund-raising work for cancer research. Hosted by the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, the luncheon drew hundreds of well-known New Yorkers, including Adrien Arpel, Judith Ripka, Tina Knowles, Kyle MacLachlan and Willie Geist, who emceed the event.
Schwartz, who lost her mother to cancer in 1989, told WWD: “When it comes to cancer research, I’m such a supporter of that because I think so many people are unaware of how much just a little donation matters.” The designer, who stressed the importance of awareness, medical research and giving, also talked about jewelry, as she motioned to her friend, actress Sofia Vergara, whom she dubbed a “jewelry fiend.”
“Jewelry to me, its like candy,” Vergara chimed in, enthusiastically. “I see jewelry, I go to the store or when my stylist brings me jewelry, the whole world stops. There’s nothing more beautiful than jewelry. They are like toys.…I play with them at night before I go to sleep, before Lorraine has to take them back, and then I cry.”
The passionate Vergara, who wore Lorraine Schwartz diamond dangling earrings encrusted with dark blue sapphires and diamonds, as well as diamond bangles, said that sometimes she goes overboard with her bauble obsession.
“People always say that if it wasn’t for my stylist, I’d go out looking like a Christmas tree,” she said.
