LOUIS’ LADIES: After emerging from bankruptcy and winning a legal battle to reclaim the rights to use his name, Los Angeles-based designer Louis Verdad staged his first runway show for his namesake label in more than three years. In his red-carpet and ready-to-wear looks presented at BOA Gallery on Thursday, he alternated his signature Forties-inspired suits and dresses with inexpensive gabardine, a cocktail dress that layered an open-weave knit layered over silver metallic, a pastel jumpsuit lined with bright pink fabric and bold colorblocking of jewel tones. “I wanted to do a departure,” Verdad said, “an experiment of color and different fabrics and different cuts.”
Harking back to his early shows when he dotted his front row with starlets such as Paris and Nicky Hilton, Verdad invited Mexican actress Berenice Noriega and “The Vampire Diaries” star Arielle Kebbel to preen next to the catwalk. Also in the audience was stylist Neil Rodgers, who works with actress Anna Kendrick. One item was already claimed. “I want the red jumpsuit,” Kebbel squealed to Verdad after the show. “It’s yours,” Verdad replied obligingly. And so Verdad is back in business.
