MANU’S MATTE MEDLEY: Contemporary accessories label Manu Atelier released a new line of handbags on Stylebop.com.
Istanbul-based Merve and Beste Manastir have re-worked their signature Pristine box bag in a scratch proof, matte leather. The sister design-duo incorporated a matte calfskin, using a coating process to make the bag durable and scratch free.
“For us, handbags are all about construction, so we loved their emphasis on handcrafted tradition, as well as the focus on key styles, such as the box,” Stylebop’s fashion director Leila Yavari said of the brand. “This is a very modern and very approachable take on luxury, which definitely appeals to our customer base.”
As daughters of a craftsman and leather goods manufacturer in Turkey, sisters Merve and Beste Manastir launched Manu Atelier in 2014, with the aim of translating their father’s craft in a modern way.
Known for its handmade leather range, the brand stands out for its clean, minimal aesthetic. The line includes the “Pristine bag,” a zip-embellished bucket bag; Whipstitched suede totes and backpacks. Prices range from 315 pounds, or $450 at current exchange, for the “Scratchproof” styles to 400 pounds, or $595, for a tote. The bags are stocked on stylebop.com, as well as the brand’s Web site.
The brand has used social media to gain an international exposure and educate their consumer on its production methods. “Instagram is a great marketing tool when you have no advertising budget,” said co-designer Merve Manasir. “There’s a lot of research and thought that goes into what we post. We use regular women and not just celebrities, so people relate to that. Our woman has attitude, she is not defined by the brand, she is the one who defines us.”
