THE SCENT OF MONEY: It clearly wasn’t a typical Tuesday morning in the money pit, known as the New York Stock Exchange, when a distinguished-looking Maurice Marciano strolled in with five ultraleggy Guess models on his arm. Heads of middle-aged market makers dressed in their usual blue jackets swiveled like turnstiles as the razor-thin beauties started handing out samples of a new fragrance, Guess Seductive, the first fruit of the apparel firm’s new license with Coty Inc. Marciano, chairman and co-founder of Guess, had come to the exchange to ring the opening bell in honor of the scent’s launch. Joining him on the podium were Bernd Beetz, chief executive officer of Coty Inc., and Seductive spokesmodel Alyssa Miller, as well as a scrum of executives. Apparently, the bell ringing only whet Marciano’s appetite. He stayed at the Exchange all day for a series of private meetings with investors.

MODEL HOME: From supermodel to cosmetics empress and rock-star wife, Iman has pretty much done it all — yet there’s still more in the pipeline. The iconic model is launching Iman Home with PK Lifestyles late this month, but will allow a preview at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center next week. Together with design consultant Carlos Mota, she designed the VIP Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge at the tents at Lincoln Center. Using Iman’s new fabrics, the duo conjured up an oasis replete with pieces of her personal furniture, including African stools and framed photographs by Bruce Weber and Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin. “Since I stopped modeling, got married and had a daughter, home has become a passion of mine,” she told WWD. “The gods of the interior decoration must have been looking down on me, because all of a sudden, here was this great opportunity to create the Mercedes-Benz Star Lounge.” Iman is so pleased with the result that she may even make it her home away from home. “It’s probably going to be the new place to find me,” she said. “At least until fashion week is up.”
SEE YOU IN COURT: The fashion fangs have come out in the case of Kitson versus Nicole Richie’s Winter Kate clothing manufacturer Majestic Mills. Majestic Mills filed a breach of contract lawsuit last week in Los Angeles Superior Court claiming the famed retailer owes it nearly $240,000 worth of vests, dresses, cardigans and more. But Kitson argues around $200,000 of that is merchandise it couldn’t sell and is sitting in its warehouse waiting to be shipped back to Majestic Mills. “We are very cautious with celebrity lines since we have learned from the mistakes of celebrity lines past such as Victoria Beckham’s dVb and Lauren Conrad’s Lauren Conrad Collection. Not every movie will be a blockbuster — even if it looks great on paper, it takes hard work and great retail partnerships to make these celebrity clothing lines blockbusters,” said Dean Khial, Kitson’s director of operations. Khial added Kitson would be countersuing Majestic Mills for breach of contract. It’s not a bad legal strategy considering a court appearance by Richie just might stir up sales.
