TOP MARKS: Marks and Spencer hosted a presentation on the outdoor terrace at the Condé Nast College of Fashion and Design in Soho during London Collections: Men, showcasing a preview of its Best of British spring-summer 2015 collection. Set to a live piano performance by up-and-coming British pianist Bruno Heinen, eleven models — including the face of the range Oliver Cheshire — took to a podium in dapper suiting. Among the standouts was an ice blue two-button suit, worn with an open-neck white shirt and a pale turquoise trench coat. There was a light blue linen double-breasted suit, a gray windowpane checked blazer, and a cream waistcoat-and-trouser pairing, topped with a lovely white safari jacket. Tony O’Connor, head of menswear design, said the M&S archive, which reaches back 130 years, was the inspiration, along with references from the late Sixties and early Seventies music scene, “which I love for its unique take on smart casual that’s just effortless.” Footwear was also a highlight: Suede brogues came in a palette of mint green, lilac, pale gray, rust, and core — and looked great with the restrained palette of the clothing.
