Marymount University to Honor Tadashi Shoji

The Los Angeles-based designer will be named 2013 Designer of the Year at the school's Portfolio in Motion student fashion show on May 2.

MARYMOUNT TAPS SHOJI: Marymount University will honor Los Angeles-based designer Tadashi Shoji as its 2013 Designer of the Year recipient at the school’s Portfolio in Motion student fashion show on May 2. Shoji launched his signature collection in 1982 and has won a wide celebrity following over the past 30 years, including Octavia Spencer, Kate Beckinsale, Mo’Nique and Katy Perry.

Shoji has been busy expanding his business, recently, inking a licensing arrangement with the Fragrance Group for the launch of his debut scent in fall 2014. He also launched an e-commerce site last year, offering dresses and gowns from his ready-to-wear collection. The designer will receive Marymount’s award at the student fashion show and will also be on hand to review senior design students’ portfolios the next day. The fashion show, with the theme “Cosmic Dreaming,” will highlight garments from fashion design students and also include designs made from jersey fabric donated by Eileen Fisher, Marymount’s 2012 Designer of the Year, as well as bridesmaid dresses for “destination” weddings.
