BAG MANAGEMENT: “I had to funk up the brand; it was too tame for me,” said designer Michael Michalsky of MCM. During his six-year tenure there, Michalsky has transformed the Munich-based bag label from the mainstay of soccer players and Eighties rock stars to meet the demands of a new generation.

The classic backpack is now touted by Berlin’s fashion and art crowd, which cooed over the latest neon-green version at a breakfast on Wednesday in a Soho House suite. The label also continues growing in Asia.

“Doesn’t everyone have both a crazy side and a sophisticated side?” mused Michalsky, when questioned about the brand’s multiple personalities that range from metal studs and bright python for small shoulder bags and men’s hold-alls to the sophisticated “First Lady” range of understated calf- leather handbags. ”There is always something for everyone.”
