Meggie and Chris Kempner Host Party for New Label

The sister-brother team welcomed editors to the Upper East Side apartment their grandmother called home.

SCHOOLED BY KEMPNER: In keeping with their grandmother Nan Kempner’s hospitable ways, the sister-brother team of Meggie and Chris Kempner welcomed editors to the Upper East Side apartment she called home for Thursday night’s launch party for their new Kempner label. The light menu borrowed recipes from the consummate hostess’ cookbook “R.S.V.P.: Menus for Entertaining From People Who Know How.” “My grandmother was obsessed with hamburgers and hot dogs. She even served them at her 50th wedding anniversary at the New York Botanical Gardens, and it was black tie,” Meggie Kempner said. “So we had sliders and pigs in the blankets.”

Instead of using models for their lowkey preview, the Kempners rounded up some of Meggie Kempner’s female friends to wear items from the debut line. “We wanted editors to see real girls wearing the collection,’ she said.
Chris Kempner, who is finishing up his MBA at Harvard, was facing a different kind of reality. He flew in for the party Thursday morning and was back in Boston by midnight for a midterm exam Friday.
