IT’S MICHAEL, OF KORS: Michelle Obama’s love affair with New York designers continues. For her first official White House portrait, the First Lady has gone with a more established fashion name than in the past, opting for Michael Kors. In the photo, Obama dons a black crepe jersey racer-back gown from Kors’ spring collection. The designer had been approached by Obama’s unofficial style consultant, Ikram Goldman, to make a few pieces, but didn’t know if she was going to wear the dress until the photo was released Friday. Earlier last week, Obama wore an emerald green, Empire-waisted Kai Milla gown to celebrate Milla’s husband, Stevie Wonder, at the White House.

NEW YEAR, NEW YOU: Is the Council of Fashion Designers of America moving the date and venue for the 2009 CFDA Fashion Awards? According to sources, CFDA executives are scheduling the awards for June 15, two weeks later than their traditional date on the first Monday of the month. Even bigger news is that the organization is said to be mulling Lincoln Center’s refurbished Alice Tully Hall on Broadway as the site for the festivities this year instead of the traditional New York Public Library. If true, the Upper West Side should brace itself for the fashion invasion: Alice Tully Hall is not too far from Lincoln Center’s Damrosch Park, where Mercedes-Benz New York Fashion Week will be held beginning in September 2010.
LADIES’ NIGHT: The women who work at the world’s biggest luxury group are ready for the limelight. LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton is hosting an exhibition at its Avenue Montaigne headquarters titled “EllesVMH” to celebrate International Women’s Day on March 8. About 100 employees posed for photographer Christophe Beauregard, including Dior Couture studio assistant Judith Dahan, Louis Vuitton sales associate Mireille Song and pastry chef Sarah Tyler from La Grande Epicerie. LVMH’s head of human resources and synergies Chantal Gaemperle plans to host a private preview Thursday. One famous “elle” who is not pictured is Delphine Arnault. “But my cousin is. She works at Marc Jacobs,” Arnault said at the Emilio Pucci show on Saturday, referring to her cousin Stephanie Watin, who works in Jacobs’ handbag division.
