Like many diehard SoulCycle-ers, Milly’s Michelle Smith has a three-class-a-week habit. And as of Wednesday, cyclists and shoppers alike will be able to buy into her enthusiasm.
Smith teamed up with her favorite instructor Stacey Griffith to create a limited run of T-shirts and tanks imprinted with motivational messages. For the Stacey G + Milly collaboration, the pair will host a ride at SoulCycle’s Bridgehampton outpost over the Fourth of July weekend. A one-day pop-up shop will also be open for businesses selling tank tops and T-shirts imprinted with such phrases as “Bang the Chain,” “No One Remembers Normal,” “Bad, Bad, Bad” and “Psycho.” Griffith, SoulCycle’s senior master instructor, and the designer said they wanted to give wearers the option to say things they would never say. After their joint ride, their devotees will be able to find the $80 tanks and $90 T-shirts in Milly’s East Hampton and New York stores and online shop while supplies last.
Smith first tried SoulCycle two years ago at the suggestion of her Pilates instructor and she has been spinning her wheels ever since. “It’s the best calorie burn I’ve ever experienced.”
Smith paid homage to her favorite instructor once before by designing T-shirts imprinted with what she described as “Stacey G-isms” for Griffith’s birthday earlier this year. The duo is already brainstorming about other categories they might team up for in the future.
