Minnie Mouse Exhibit Opens at Somerset House

"Inspired by Minnie" features a collection of dresses, jewelry and accessories created in honor of Walt Disney's original cartoon heroine.

COLOR ME BRITISH: “That’s not the Minnie I remember. I think it’s Kylie Minogue inside the suit,” said designer Katie Hillier at the opening of “Inspired by Minnie,” a collection of dresses, jewelry and accessories created in honor of Walt Disney’s original cartoon heroine. Hillier was referring to the “live” Minnie Mouse — who was much smaller than her Disneyland incarnation — and who greeted guests at the show at Somerset House. Hillier joined Giles Deacon, Piers Atkinson, Richard Nicoll, Lulu Guinness, and Luke Hersheson in designing items for Minnie, which are on display during London Fashion Week.

Across town, at Matches, another show of British talent was taking place. The store’s founders Tom and Ruth Chapman threw a party to mark their support of London Fashion Week and British talent — complete with a brass band. They gave over the first floor of their Marylebone boutique to an installation featuring past and present work by designers including Erdem, Christopher Kane, and Alexander McQueen.
