PARIS BOUND: Miuniku, the nascent Indian label that won a special jury award at the inaugural LVMH Young Fashion Designer Prize last May, is to present its spring-summer 2015 collection during Paris Fashion Week. Mumbai-based sisters Tina and Nikita Sutradhar plan to unveil a 20-look collection at an off-calendar presentation on Sept. 27 in a bid to widen their wholesale client base.

Tina Sutradhar said she and her sister are being “careful” with the prize money 100,000 euros, or $131,780 at current exchange rates investing it in their collection, which is produced in India using fabrics sourced in the U.K., Italy and locally. They are also to receive mentoring from LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton executives.

Miuniku plans to ship its fall collection in mid-October to three doors Opening Ceremony in New York and Los Angeles, and Cement in Japan and are aiming to widen their store count to about a dozen for next season, Sutradhar said. “Slowly but surely,” was how she described their approach, noting Miuniku has engaged Tomorrow as its showroom and sales agent. Still, she acknowledged that the prize recognition “has speeded everything up for us and we are really grateful for the opportunity of being able to go forward.”

Hood by Air, which also nabbed a special jury prize, is also to stage a Paris presentation, as reported.
