MOVIE NIGHT: “It is all about fashion,” said Gucci creative director Frida Giannini about Christina Voros’ documentary “The Director,” which was produced by James Franco. Giannini should know, as the movie is a portrait of herself. It was shot over the course of 18 months.
“I never like seeing myself on screen, but the documentary is interesting because it is about the behind the scenes of a collection,” said Giannini, speaking at the cocktail gathering she cohosted with French Vogue’s Emmanuelle Alt at the Royal Monceau-Raffles Paris hotel prior to the film’s screening on Wednesday night.

A few of her muses attended the event, including Florence Welch, the songstress who has sported Gucci on tour. She was chatting with Lauren Santo Domingo, who wore a glittering Gucci dress.
French actor Melvil Poupaud said he is filming in Bulgaria. “I play the part of a pimp,” he said, adding fashion in the movie includes biker jackets, hooded sweaters and other sportswear.
After a release during the Tribeca Film Festival 2013, “The Director” is set to come out on Showtime in the U.S. in March. Distribution is also on tap in other countries, including France and Japan.
