MOVING UP MADISON: Eyewear designer and ACE Visionary Award winner Robert Marc has opened a new boutique on 1225 Madison Avenue, near 88th Street — his fifth store on the avenue, eighth in New York and ninth overall in the U.S. (His first store opened in 1981). “It’s really where we are today,” said the designer in jovial spirits after joking that his voice is so distinctive people recognize him on the phone immediately. “It’s clearly the most up-to-date expression of where we are today. As an American eyewear designer, I wanted to focus on a midcentury modern American design….We wanted to go for a residential feel.” The 600-square-foot space, designed with the interior designer and architect S. Russell Groves, boasts a pale gray palette throughout, a white Carrera tile floor, a dramatic chandelier and glass shelving showcasing the latest fall Deep Sea Waters and RMX ranges.
Marc, who spoke excitedly about his next resort collection, is known for putting out eyewear collections in tandem with fashion’s ready-to-wear calendar. “There’s a reason behind every collection I do, which our customers really respond to,” he said. “Our customers are really into wardrobing. They want to be called when the new collection comes in.”
