ARTSY MOVE: The British luxury label Mulberry is sponsoring London’s Institute of Contemporary Arts for 2014, the brand said Wednesday.
The label’s support of the London gallery and performance venue, which describes itself as supporting “radical art and culture,” kicks off with Mulberry’s role as title sponsor of the ICA’s Richard Hamilton exhibition, which opened Feb. 11.
The ICA’s exhibition — which coincides with the Tate Modern’s current retrospective on the artist — takes the form of a re-staging of two installations that Hamilton first created for the ICA at its former London home in Dover Street in 1955 and in 1957.
“Since 1971, Mulberry has had a rich history of collaborating with talented and creative people, and we believe strongly in the growing fusion of art and fashion today,” said Anne-Marie Verdin, brand director at Mulberry, noting that the company would also work with the ICA on its program for developing young artists.
Mulberry’s sponsorship of the ICA follows the brand’s support of the first Frieze New York art fair in 2012.
