FRENCH CHIC: Elegance. Many strive for it, not all succeed in achieving it. Nathalie Rykiel takes a stab at capturing its true meaning in her latest book, “L’élégance,” published by Editions Autrement. The French-language tome explores the subject from different perspectives and via various experts. Olivier Saillard, director of the fashion museum at Palais Galliera, gives a fashion point of view, recalling forgotten icons such as Daisy Fellowes and Baba de Faucigny-Lucinge.
Pastry chef Pierre Hermé takes a stab via a mouthwatering essay about the delicacy of the vanilla bean. Sylvie Guillem, France’s most famous ballerina, talks about the elegance of movement, while Rykiel, naturally, speaks about her designing mother Sonia, retelling anecdotes of the past.
Rykiel also published an autobiography in 2010, titled “Tu seras une femme, ma fille.”
