NEW AGE: Lanvin might be old, but by no means is it lagging behind. To celebrate its 125th anniversary, the French house on Thursday launched a new Web site using technology meant to maximize visitors’ visual experience.

The bilingual (French-English) site tells the house’s history via original gouaches by its founder Jeanne Lanvin, archival video footage and photographs — some of which have never been shown in public before. In addition to the rich visual offering, a time line recounts the house’s milestones. Readers can learn about the story behind its emblematic color blue and Jeanne Lanvin’s past as an interior designer, for instance.

Each Thursday, a new item will be added to the time line, which is expected to reach “2014” by mid-May, when the house will post three new sections dedicated to Lanvin herself, as well as to Alber Elbaz and Lucas Ossendrijver, its current women’s wear and men’s wear designers, respectively. A similar strategy is employed on other social media, including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.

According to a spokesman, the Web site is expected to build momentum before the launch of two Lanvin-related exhibitions slated for 2015, one of which will run in Paris’ Palais Galliera.

Next up is a new book focusing on Lanvin’s art of window dressing, due out in September.
