NEW JUDGES: Fourteen international fashion authorities will join the existing panel of British figures in judging the 2013 Dorchester Collection Fashion Prize. The new judges hail from Italy, France, Switzerland and the U.S. — all countries where there are Dorchester Collection hotels. Joining Issa designer Daniella Helayel, Stephen Jones, Nicholas Oakwell, Caroline Issa, Rupert Sanderson and Stephen Webster from the U.K. are Derek Blasberg, Catherine Bloom, Penny Lovell and Gelila Puck from the U.S.; Lorenz Bäumer, Kappauf and Pamela Golbin from France; Fabia Di Drusco, Vivia Ferragamo, Guglielmo Miani and Margherita Perico from Italy, and Frederic Aranda, Laurence Desbordes and Jean-Pierre Greff from Switzerland.
The competition, which opens to designers at dorchestercollection.com at 10 a.m. CET today, is for young designers of couture, ready-to-wear or premium accessories brands based in countries where there are Dorchester Collection properties. They should have an established design business and have operated their brand for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years.

The international winner will be revealed in London on Oct. 29, when five short-listed designers will take part in a runway presentation before the judges award the 25,000 pound, or about $37,800 at current exchange, prize. As well as a two-night stay at one of the Dorchester Collection’s hotels, the prize now includes one-to-one mentoring from a selection of the judges.
