ON DISPLAY: Eight of New York’s most promising accessories talents debuted their fall collections on Tuesday evening with a festive unveiling, courtesy of Target and the CFDA. The two establishments joined forces to gussy-up Target’s new gallery space, which, until 5 p.m. on Wednesday, served as a one-stop-shop “Accessories Showcase” for editors and buyers to view the latest designs by A Peace Treaty, Dezso by Sara Beltrán, Emanuela Duca, Gemma Redux, Grey Ant, Isa Tapia, Kara, and Sang A — all onetime participants in the CFDA’s Fashion Incubator program. Noria Morales, Target’s director of design partnerships said at Tuesday night’s opening event: “It’s really a first of its kind because we have this gallery space for the first time, so we are able to use it to empower new designers and it’s great for the editors and buyers too because accessories designers do not have a platform during fashion week.”
CFDA chief executive officer Steven Kolb found the event’s timing to work in the designers’ favor. “It’s on the eve of fashion week, which is really about clothes and ready-to-wear. Accessories is such an important part of our business and one that deserves attention and spotlight so we pulled them out and Target helped us to show the designers’ collections,” he said. Tapia, now in her eighth season felt the opportunity to be “life changing,” noting that the showcase’s “exposure and resources,” provided unparalleled positioning for success in the coming season.
