NOTHING VENTURED…: Emerging London men’s wear talent Nicomede Talavera has joined the ranks of labels such as Mary Katrantzou, Erdem, Peter Pilotto and Thomas Tait as the latest winner of sponsorship and mentoring from the Center for Fashion Enterprise in London.
Talavera has been chosen to take part in the New Fashion Venture Program, which runs for two years and offers designers free studio space, one-on-one mentoring in all aspects of the fashion business, legal advice, monetary subsidies, and access to sampling and production machinery.
Wendy Malem, director of the CFE, the business incubator linked to London College of Fashion, described Talavera’s talent as “fresh and directional.” She said the designer is “excited by the fusion between business and design” and that the CFE team is looking forward to adding value to his talent.
Talavera, who takes part in MAN, the Fashion East men’s wear collective that takes place during London Collections: Men, said his business has developed rapidly over the last three seasons, and has reached a stage where it must progress and be sustainable. “I am really looking forward to the next two years,” he said.
Current participants in the Venture program include Craig Green, Phoebe English, Teatum Jones, Rejina Pyo and Fyodor Golan.
