OF GARMENTS & GALAS: The Costume Institute’s spring exhibitions and benefits are the subject of a new book: “Vogue & The Metropolitan Museum of Art — Costume Institute: Parties, Exhibitions, People” by Vogue’s Hamish Bowles. Published by Abrams, it starts with “Jacqueline Kennedy: The White House Years” in 2001, and runs through “Charles James: Beyond Fashion,” currently on show. The book draws from Vogue archives with photographs by Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, Craig McDean and Mario Testino, for example, with images of the actual exhibitions, the Vogue shoots they inspired and the annual celeb-filled galas. The book, supported by Saks Fifth Avenue and available from Sept. 23 for $50, is edited by Chloe Malle, with a foreword by the Met’s director, Thomas P. Campbell and an introduction by Anna Wintour.
