GREAT SCOTT: The Office of Angela Scott will open a store Saturday at Victory Park to present its distinctive collection of hand-sewn leather shoes and boots. The shop is next to hipster boutique V.O.D. and the W Dallas — Victory Hotel.
Spring was Angela Scott’s first season, but her men’s-inspired shoes have already adorned the feet of Cate Blanchett, Jessica Alba and Zooey Deschanel, and four styles of brogues and booties will be in Saks Fifth Avenue’s flagship this fall.
The Santa Barbara, Calif., transplant might be just another young designer hoping to captivate the top 1 percent with her $480-plus shoes, but Scott has a leg up: backing and moral support flows from dear friend Bui Simon, wife of mall magnate Herbert Simon. They have worked together for years: Scott managed the Simons’ Santa Barbara estate and helped Bui run her foundation for orphans in Thailand.
“I knew how much she loved shoes, so I told her if she was willing to do the legwork and learn it from the ground up and make it her own, I literally gave her a shoestring budget and she went for it,” Bui Simon said. “She is a self-made genius, a tenacious, hard-working, creative, kind, wonderful person, and I couldn’t be more proud of her.”
“We hope to create a whole accessories brand with handbags, small leather goods, watches,” said Scott. “I love building things and the whole idea of going from sketch to fruition.”
But shoes are closest to her heart. Her husband, Scott Milden, is vice president of Justin Brands and formerly was senior creative director of footwear at Fossil.
