PHILANTHROPIC FOCUS: Olivier Bottrie, president of travel retail worldwide at the Estée Lauder Cos. and co-founder of Hand in Hand for Haiti, the nonprofit organization, has been appointed to the French National Order of Merit.
The award was bestowed at a ceremony hosted by Patrick Nicoloso, French Ambassador to Haiti, in Port-au-Prince on Tuesday.
Bottrie was recognized for his philanthropic works following the earthquake in Haiti five years ago. He started and led the founding of Lycée Jean-Baptiste Point du Sable, a non-profit school that opened on Oct. 3, 2011. It now has 302 students and has a goal to educate more than 700 pupils by 2023.
“The Lycée Jean-Baptiste Pointe du Sable is an extraordinary and successful project,” stated Nicoloso. “Olivier Bottrie’s energy and commitment to it are exemplary.”
“Education is the single most important determinant of an individual’s potential for growth,” stated Bottrie. “Our students represent the future of Haiti.”
The Estée Lauder Cos. has sponsored the educational program.
