ON LEAVE: The English Gentleman, an always dramatic, static presentation of Savile Row tailoring and a fixture on the London Collections: Men calendar, is taking a break this season. “The English Gentleman has gone on holiday, but looks forward to seeing you at LC:M in January,” organizers said in a statement to WWD, but declined to elaborate on the reasons.
The January 2015 showcase will go forward, according to Anda Rowland, vice chairman of Anderson & Sheppard, who helps to put together the event. She said the winter presentation is already in the works, and a social media campaign around the English gentleman’s preparations for his “summer holiday” has been shot by Sean Thomas and will launch on June 12.
The English Gentleman showcases vintage and contemporary Savile Row designs, and the backdrop is always dramatic: Past venues have included Spencer House, Lord’s Cricket Ground and the Cabinet War Rooms. Models have dressed as soldiers and as gentlemen preparing for a day of shooting à la “Downton Abbey,” while last January they posed in Forties-inspired attire as they played at outsmarting the Axis powers in the War Rooms.
During the upcoming London shows, many of the Savile Row brands, including Anderson & Sheppard and Huntsman, will be holding presentations.
