ON THE ROAD: What do Brunello Cucinelli, Ermenegildo Zegna, Kiton and the new handbag and travel bag line Fairchild Baldwin have in common? They’ve all had — or will have — trunk shows at Wilkes Bashford in San Francisco. The first was Cucinelli last Thursday, when the upscale retailer also held a lunch for top clients, followed by Zegna and Fairchild Baldwin, founded by Jill Fairchild and Karen Baldwin. Kiton comes this week. “Fairchild Baldwin is so stylish in just the right way for today,” said Wilkes Bashford, the founder of Wilkes Bashford. “I love it when individuals like Jill and Karen have such passion, and create a line for men and woman that’s versatile, classic and totally modern. I’m so impressed.”
The duo earlier had a trunk show at Richards of Greenwich (like Wilkes Bashford, owned by the Mitchell family) and sold 47 bags in two weeks. Fairchild Baldwin’s latest tour is literally taking them from one end of California to the next: On Sunday they presented the line at the winery Mai(s)onry in Yountville, in Napa Valley. This week they’re in Montecito for a private showing at the residence of designer Penny Bianchi (a collector of rare chickens who supplies Oprah, her next-door neighbor, with fresh Araucana eggs) and then it’s on to Pasadena and Los Angeles.
