Orla Kiely’s Hitchcock-Inspired Collection

Accompanying the collection was a short film by artist Mercedes Helnwein.

TAKING FLIGHT: “I was thinking Tippi Hedren and Hitchcock, and ‘The Birds’ is one of my favorite films,” said Orla Kiely, who showed her collection with a short film directed by Mercedes Helnwein, the Austrian-Irish fine artist.

Kiely screened the film inside a wooden hut and decorated her presentation room at Somerset House with creepy-looking trees with bare branches.

Despite the menacing backdrop, the collection is sweet and youthful: bird jacquard knits for sweaters and bird prints for raincoats, neat wool jersey dresses, suits and lots of little round collars, ruffle fronts, and bracelet sleeves on dresses and blouses.
