OUT WEST: Cornelia Guest landed in San Francisco last week to promote her new new cookbook, “Simple Pleasures” and was greeted by a litter of scene-stealing Westie pups. Book-signing party host Ken Fulk had borrowed the puppies from the SPCA in honor of the cruelty-free theme of Guest’s vegan recipes.
“We’re both animal lovers and I knew Cornelia would love them,” said Fulk.
Not to be upstaged, Cornelia’s pup, Olive, posed for photographers while guests nibbled on hors d’oeuvres and sipped corn soup made from Guest’s recipes.
“I’m so impressed with Cornelia writing this wonderful book,” said Carol Norfleet, a longtime friend of the Guest family. Her mother was CZ Guest’s best friend. “I’ve known Cornelia since she was a young girl, and she has never looked better,” said Norfleet. “She reminds me more and more of her beautiful mother.”
Denise Hale gave a lunch for 22 in Guest’s honor the following day at Park Tavern. Hale had first met CZ in the late Fifties when she first arrived in New York from Rome. “I met Cornelia many years later, when I was married to Vincent Minnelli,” said Hale. “Cornelia was always spirited and we’ve been friends ever since.”
Also lunching and recipe perusing were Carol and Shelby Bonnie, Tatiana Sorokko, Alex Chases, Vanessa Getty, Nancy Oakes, Alexis Swanson Traina and Trevor Traina, and Elisa Stephens.
