CHARITY ON ICE: On Thursday night, Oxfam Italia held the second edition of the Women’s Circle, a charity event held at Milan’s ice rink Palazzo del Ghiaccio celebrating international women’s commitment to justice and against poverty.
During the party, American rock star Patti Smith took the stage to sing some of her hits, including “Because the night” and “People have the power.” “Sometimes it’s difficult to think to have power because there are so many powerful forces against us, but we have the power to change things: people have the power,” she exclaimed after her performance.
Among Smith’s fans there was also Gucci creative director Frida Giannini, who is involved in several activities for women in the world, including the Chime for Change campaign.
“I’m happy to see so many people emotionally involved, but at the same time the news we just got about the death of Nelson Mandela makes me feel sad,” Giannini said. “He is the man that in the last 50 years fought more to end the abuse of human rights.”
Other attendees included Ilaria Venturini Fendi, Ginevra Elkann, legendary prima ballerina Carla Fracci, along with Malian musician Fatoumata Diawara, who performed live.
