PAINTING PROSPECT: Mavi wants a change of scenery for its flagship in Park Slope, Brooklyn. The Turkish denim brand has put out the call for artists to paint a mural on the store’s exterior at 205 Fifth Avenue.
From May 12 through June 6, artists can submit their designs to Events.firstname.lastname@example.org for a chance to put their stamp on the Brooklyn neighborhood. Artists are asked to create designs surrounding the question, “What’s your Brooklyn?” Mavi wants to create an homage to its neighborhood. Artists will have total freedom in expressing the concept in their designs, the company said. A local jury of Brooklynites will decide the mural winner, which will be announced on June 9. Jury members for the competition include Lisa Small, curator of exhibitions at the Brooklyn Museum, and Michael Conklin, editor in chief of Brooklyn Magazine. A third juror will be named. The winning submission will be painted as a full-scale mural and will be unveiled during a neighborhood event on June 21.
