GOLD STAR: A collective of 20 designers including Melissa Joy Manning, Pamela Love and Sophie Buhai have collaborated with nonprofit Pure Earth for a charity auction, raising awareness about the link between mercury pollution and gold mining.

In linking with the Council of Fashion Designers of America, Pure Earth had a roster of jewelers craft designs with gold sourced from the fair trade-certified Aurelsa Mine in Peru.

Pure Earth claims that over 30 percent of the world’s mercury pollution is contributed by faulty gold mining processes.

The designs are available for bidding in an ongoing online auction, which concludes on April 12.
