Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Dress

Executive producer Amy Kule will don an outfit by custom designer Dara Lamb for the Thursday event.

PARADE DRESS: The Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade has a new executive producer this year in Amy Kule — and the veteran special events maestro turned to custom designer Dara Lamb for the outfit she’ll don for the high-profile role on Thursday. Kule will wear a purple velvet topcoat with military details made for her by Lamb, paired with leggings, suede boots and a bowler hat. An attention-grabbing look is customary for executive producers of the parade, as about 50 million television viewers watch them cut the ribbon that kicks off the festivities. This year, NBC’s Al Roker and 20 children who lost family members on 9/11 will do the honors along with Kule.

“Al Roker promised me it won’t rain, as I’m wearing velvet and suede,” noted Kule, who is taking the helm of the parade from Robin Hall, who was executive producer for 10 years. Hall and his own predecessor, Jean McFaddin, who headed up the parade for 25 years, will both ride in a special float atop giant replicas of their favored hats, a top hat and a cowboy hat.
